Central Industrial Security Force came into being in the year 1969. Within a short span, this elite Armed Force of the Union, which was raised out of necessity to protect Public Sector Undertakings, has established itself as the largest industrial security Force in the Indian sub-continent. The professional competence exhibited by CISF has, of late, placed increasing demands on the Force for call of duty not only in internal security assignments but in international peace-keeping missions too. CISF has been inducted to a large number of airports for providing security cover in the wake of increasing threats from terrorists/hijackers. The role of CISF has further been expanded with an amendment of CISF Act in 1999 empowering it to offer security consultancy services to private enterprises. With the mind-boggling pace of technological advancement and as part of the modern industrial development, CISF has also constantly kept itself abreast of the need for matching professionalism in security dispensation through specialised training of personnel, upgradation of knowledge and managerial skills, besides induction of modern gadgetry in aid of industrial security. The CISF Training College, initially established at Partapur (Meerut) in 1969, was shifted to Shivrampally, Hyderabad in 1971. In 1987, the College was moved into the present premises at Hakimpet, and was upgraded into an Academy on 8^th December 1990. A new chapter was added to the history of the Academy when Fire Service Training Institute (FSTI) was shifted from Deoli (Rajasthan) to this Academy premises in 1999.

The National Industrial Security Academy was established primarily to conduct the basic induction training of Assistant Commandants and to function as a primary institute of CISF to cultivate professionalism and expertise in security management. The Academy has been imparting professional and specialised training to officers of CISF, other organisations and PSUs in addition to the primary task of grooming the Assistant Commandants and other direct sub officers of the Force. The Academy is also organising prestigious in-service and specialised courses like Vertical Interaction Course for officers and Integrated Industrial Security Management Course for Police, CAPFs and PSU officers. In 1999, MHA declared NISA, Hyderabad as a Centre of Excellence in the field of Industrial Security.

केंद्रीय औद्योगिक सुरक्षा बल 1969 में अस्तित्व में आया। छोटे ही अन्तराल में, गणराज्य के इस विशिष्ट सशस्त्र बल ने सार्वजनिक क्षेत्र के उपक्रमों की रक्षा एवं राष्ट्र की सेवा में स्वयं को सबसे बडे़ औद्योगिक सुरक्षा बल के रूप में स्थापित किया है। वर्तमान में सीआईएसएफ ने अपनी क्षमता के द्वारा, न केवल आंतरिक सुरक्षा कार्यों में बल्कि अंतरराष्ट्रीय शांति- मिशन कार्यों में भी स्वयं को स्थापित किया है। सीआईएसएफ को आतंकवादियों/गैर-राष्ट्रीय तत्वों से बढ़ते खतरों से सुरक्षा प्रदान करने के लिए बड़ी संख्या में हवाई अड्डों पर नियुक्त किया गया है। सीआईएसएफ की भूमिका को सीआईएसएफ अधिनियम 1969 में संशोधन के साथ विस्तारित किया गया है और इसे निजी उद्यमों को सुरक्षा परामर्श सेवाएं प्रदान करने का अधिकार दिया गया है। आधुनिक औद्योगिक विकास के हिस्से के रूप में, तकनीकी प्रगति को गति देने के साथ, सीआईएसएफ ने बलसदस्यों के विशेष प्रशिक्षण, ज्ञान और प्रबंधकीय कौशल के उन्नयन के अलावा सुरक्षा व्यवस्था में पेशेवरता से मेल खाने की आवश्यकता के अनुसार औद्योगिक क्षेत्र में स्वयं को परिष्कृत किया है। सीआईएसएफ ट्रेनिंग कॉलेज प्रारम्भ में 1969 में परतापुर (मेरठ) में स्थापित किया गया था, तथा वर्ष 1971 में शिवरामपल्ली, हैदराबाद में स्थानांतरित कर दिया गया था। 1987 में यह कॉलेज हकिमपेट के वर्तमान परिसर में स्थापित किया गया और 8 दिसंबर 1990 को एक अकादमी के रूप में उन्नयन किया गया। एक नया अध्याय अकादमी के इतिहास में तब जोड़ा गया, जब 1999 में अग्निशमन सेवा प्रशिक्षण संस्थान (FSTI) राजस्थान के देवली से अकादमी परिसर में स्थानांतरित हुआ। राष्ट्रीय औद्योगिक सुरक्षा अकादमी की स्थापना मुख्य रूप से सीधी भर्ती हुए सहायक कमांडेंट के बुनियादी प्रशिक्षण का संचालन करने, और औद्योगिक सुरक्षा प्रबंधन में व्यावसायिकता और विशेषज्ञता विकसित करने के लिए सीआईएसएफ के एक अंग के रूप में की गई थी। यह अकादमी सहायक कमांडेंट (परिवीक्षाधीन) और बल के अन्य अधिकारिक पदों पर सीधी भर्ती के प्रशिक्षणार्थियों को प्रशिक्षण प्रदान करने के अतिरिक्त सीआईएसएफ और अन्य पुलिस संगठनों और पीएसयू के अधिकारियों को पेशेवर और विशेष प्रशिक्षण प्रदान कर रही है। अकादमी आईपीएस अधिकारियों के लिए वर्टिकल इंटरेक्शन कोर्स और कमांडेंट और डिप्टी कमांडेंट और पुलिस, अर्ध-सैन्य बलों और पीएसयू के समकक्ष रैंक के लिए एकीकृत औद्योगिक सुरक्षा प्रबंधन पाठ्यक्रम जैसे प्रतिष्ठित सेवा पाठ्यक्रमों का भी आयोजन कर रही है। गृह मंत्रालय के द्वारा 1999 में निसा, हैदराबाद को औद्योगिक सुरक्षा के क्षेत्र में उत्कृष्टता केंद्र के रूप में चिन्हित किया गया है।
